WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — A staple in the stands of Redskins games is no more.
The Hogettes, a group of male fans who have cheered on the Washington Redskins for 30 years while wearing dresses, floppy hats and pig snouts announced Friday that the group is retiring.
The Hogettes said on their website that it’s a “new era.” They say they’ll still be Redskins fans and will be continue to help raise money for children’s charities — although in more “incognito” fashion.
Hogettes founder and ‘Boss Hogette’ Michael Torbert told All-News 99.1 WNEW that the decision to call it quits was his own, although it did upset some other members of the group.
“I talked to the other guys to make sure they know what’s going on, and we’ll go from there,” said Torbert, who added that he has no desire to pass control of the group to someone else.
